Bowling

Greetings Chargers!

Wow!  It's hard to believe the semester is coming to a close already!  K-1 P.E. is wrapping up the year with the skill of rolling.  So far students have worked on the proper form with the cue: step, tick-tock goes the clock.  Students have also focused on their accuracy through a game of hula hoop rolling.  Next week, students will be introduced to bowling where they will demonstrate the skills they have worked diligently on this week and learn about the sport of bowling.

On another note, please make sure your child is wearing tennis shoes or shoes with straps on P.E. days.

P.E. Schedule:
Kindergarten: Monday & Thursday
First Grade: Monday & Tuesday

Wednesday is a rotating schedule

K-1 P.E. Happenings

Greetings Chargers!

We just wrapped up our Tossing, Throwing, and Catching Unit.  Students participated in a variety of games that allowed them to demonstrate the skills learned.  A snowstorm game to Archway Arete, where students threw "snowballs" to the opposing team’s side.  The goal was to have the least amount of "snowballs" at the end of the game.  The challenge increased when the game was won by having caught the most "snowballs."  The unit culminated with Dodgeball!  In this activity, students worked together to knock over three cones on the opposing team’s side, all while attempting to dodge the ball.

This week we are working on teamwork through cooperative games with the parachute.  Students used their imagination to become a kitty, mouse, shark, lifeguard, and swimmer.  Ask your child for more details!

Tossing, Throwing, and Catching

Greetings Chargers!

K-1 wrapped up the jump rope unit last week with the long jump ropes!  They worked really hard throughout the unit.  We will revisit jump roping throughout the year now that students have learned the basic skills.  Keep practicing at home!

This week we kicked off our tossing, throwing, and catching unit.  Students initially learned with scarves, and have progressed to yarn balls in just a week.  The cue words for tossing that you may hear at home are tick, step, toss.  Next week students will learn how to throw and catch properly.

Readathon

 Read-a-Thon
Mark your calendars for our second annual Read-a-thon! This special day will be on Friday, October 30th, and will occur alongside our first on-site book fair! Students may come to school dressed as their favorite classical literary characters, scientists, or historical figures. The goal of this event is to stir a continuous love for reading and an opportunity for lifelong learning. Costumes need not come directly from the grade level curriculum, though they must be classically on-mission. We kindly ask that you send costume ideas to your classroom teacher for approval by Friday, October 23rd. Be sure that costumes allow students to engage in regular school day activities like recess, lunch, and some curricular instruction. The headmasters, teachers, fellow scholars, and students' family members will read to students throughout the day. The Read-a-thon will be a huge celebration of reading for our entire school community!

Book Fair

The Archway Arete book fair will run from Monday, October 26th - Friday, October 30th in the resource room. We look forward to providing this exciting opportunity for students and parents to purchase books for their personal and classroom libraries. The class that purchases the most books from the week-long book fair will be awarded a pizza party. Profits from the book fair will go directly to children's books for the Arete library. The book fair will be open for parents at specific times during the school day, so please plan to attend! There are prizes to be won for participating!

Welcome Back!

Welcome back Chargers!

It is so nice to be back at school teaching your children!  We are continuing with our Jump Rope unit where students will now learn the basics of the long rope.  If you start to hear the poem "Teddy Bear, Teddy Bear," your child learned it in P.E. to go along with long rope jumping.

First Quarter

Hello Chargers!

Wow!  It is so hard to believe we are almost done with the first quarter.  Your child has worked really hard this year to learn a variety of locomotor skills, basic jump roping skills, the art of chasing and fleeing, as well as incorporating our virtues into every aspect of P.E.  Over the break I encourage your child to keep active by particpating in physical activity your child loves as well as practicing some of the skills that may have been a challenge during the first quarter.  One activity I encourage everyone to keep up with through the year is jump roping.  It is an activity that can be taken almost anywhere and provides a number of benefits to your child's health.

First quarter conferences will start soon. Conferences are optional for Specials.  Although I would love to sit down and talk with each of you about your student, I will not be able to do so.  Instead, conferences for Specialists are reserved for those that have specific questions or concerns. Please find the link to schedule a conference on this blog listed under helpful links.

Go Chargers!
