It finally feels like Fall has arrived!  This means P.E. will be moving outside for a little while. :)  Starting next week, K-1 P.E. classes will be outside (possibly until the end of the quarter).  Jackets & sweaters may be needed for those early moring classes.

This week scholars are learning the basics of jump roping.  Throughout the course of the year students will have an opportunity to practice this skill.  Jump roping is very difficult, but today the kids already showed great perseverance and such courage in trying a new, challenging skill.  Keep up the hard work students!

Specials Conferences

Greetings Chargers,

Wow!  It's hard to believe Fall Break begins tomorrow!  Your child has learned so much this quarter.  From basketball skills to team building exercises to locomotor skills, your child has worked hard and persevered through it all.  I look forward to another great quarter!

When your child returns from the break conferences will be held.  This year conferences with Specials area teachers will be different than in the past.  Parents will meet with all specials teachers together in the Archway Art Room to discuss their child’s progress over the course of the first quarter.  Specials conferences are optional. We recommend scheduling a conference only if a parent has particular question, concern, or love for one of our Specials. Conferences will last 15 minutes.

Here is the link to sign up for a conference: K-1 Specials Conference

Have a healthy and active break!

Team Building and Basketball

Good morning Chargers!

This week students are using team building and problem solving skills to accomplish a goal as a squad.  Each team is given the challenge to get their entire team across the "ocean" without having their body touch the "water."  They are given a few supplies to assist them: one scooter, one jump rope, and two bean bags.  Squads have come up with a variety of ways to reach land!

Next week we will begin basketball!  Students will be introduced to dribbling, passing, and shooting.  Throughout the unit, students will be able to apply these skills into a variety of games.

Please remember to send your student with shoes that have athletic soles on P.E. days (Mondays and Thursdays).

First Week of School & What's Next

Greetings Chargers!

It was a great week in K-1 Physical Education!  By the end of next week, all classes will have listened to the story of Slow Poke Joe and had a Socratic discussion.  This story is packed with lessons in friendship, perseverance, sacrifice, teasing, setting a goal, generosity, and gratitude.

This week all students began working on the locomotor skills of walking, hopping, and jumping.  Next week I will introduce galloping, skipping, and sliding to the students.  These skills provide the foundation for many activities and sports students will learn this year.  Specifically, next week the locomotor skills will be incorporated into games such as tag.

Please be sure to have your child wear tennis shoes on P.E. days.

Welcome to K-1 Physical Education!

Greetings Chargers!

Welcome to the Kindergarten & First Grade Physical Education blog!  My name is Tiffany Steinmann, and I am delighted to be returning for my second year at Archway Arete.  It is my pleasure to get another year to coach the returning students and to get to know the incoming families.

This will be my ninth year teaching, with experience in the classroom teaching kindergarten through second grade as well as teaching K-5 Physical Education.  I graduated from Grand Valley State University with a Bachelor of Movement Science with an emphasis in Elementary Education.  There, I also completed graduate coursework and earned an endorsement in Early Childhood Education.

I have a passion for living an active and healthy lifestyle, and look forward to sharing my enthusiasm with my students.  One of my goals is for students to love being active through play, fitness, and sports, and to carry that excitement for a lifetime of healthy living!

Please remember to send your child to school with the appropriate athletic shoes on P.E. days, and a water bottle so that your child can remain hydrated throughout the day.  The P.E. blog will be updated each time a new unit begins.  If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me via email.
